A cool fall night…

Summer is officially over for 2009, and Fall is here. As much as I love the warm summer sun after a cold winter, I also love the cool days of Fall after a hot summer! I think these pictures of the girls, capture it perfectly. Hanging out during one of the last few late evening sunsets, before it starts to get darker, earlier. The leaves have started to fall, Lily has a peacoat on with her flip flops, and they are chatting away on their home made swings. Memories in the making!
Happy Fall!

"Through God’s lens"

One of my favorite, most heart-warming things to do at night, is watch Owen sleep through the baby monitor. I love staring at those eye lids and his precious little fingers, that are always sprawled out to his sides as he sleeps; and listening to him breath and grunt in his sleep. I love him with every inch of my being! It sometimes makes me feel like God as I watch him fall asleep, knowing that he can’t see me. Sounds weird, I know; but if you think about it…..Isn’t that what our relationship with God is like?

He is always watching us from above and we can’t see Him, but we have comfort in knowing that He is always there and will always come to us if we call. Just like I do for Owen. He stares down at us and gets a warm, fuzzy feeling inside, just looking at what He created. He loves us unconditionally, the same way that I love Owen as I watch him sleep through the monitor at night. God loves us no matter what we do and is ready to take us back, the moment we screw up, without hesitation. Just like we would our own children when they break our hearts or do something upsetting.

Our preacher spoke today about how we should love each others’ children, the way that we love and care for our own children. We should have a feeling of belonging to our friends, family, and community the way that we did when we lived in college dorms with all of our buddies, who stole from us, stunk sometimes, and even annoyed us at times, and we still loved them. We’ll never again have a close relationship with friends, the way that we did when we were in highschool or college, living in the same building as our friends. We belonged to them and they to us. That is what a Christian community should feel like….a close knit relationship with every brother and sister. It should be second nature to want to know everyone in your congregation, your neighbors, etc. You should love their children, take them food when they are sick, talk to them about their struggles, get into the mess of life with them, instead of trying to keep our distance and avoid trying to get to know our brothers and sisters. In my college years, there was definitely a lot of messiness and annoyances, but I still loved those friends know matter what. I felt convicted today, that I need to have that heart again with others. As an adult, I have become less of a servant to others and I tend to avoid people who are not like me or are going through bad situations. Now as I mature in Christ, I will strive to really live out my love for others and not just read about it or talk about it.

Could you imagine what the World, or the city of Indianapolis, or even the town of Fishers would be like, if everyone who claimed to be a Christian would show their faith by their actions and love their neighbors the way the bible says too? It would change humanity for sure! Think about it!

“Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment!” James 2:12

“As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.” James 2:26

Want to know what my path is? It’s been fun, that’s for sure!
I first made a decision to go green in March of 2009 after reading numerous magazine articles about it and finding it very intriguing. Once I made the decision, I went out and bought several books on the subject. Some of my first steps, were recycling; changing my lightbulbs; changing all of my household cleaners to environmentally safe ones, taking all of our old cleaners and other toxic materials that I found in the garage and around the house to a hazardous waste facility, and using durable grocery bags when I go shopping.
This all became a fun addiction, so it just took off from there! I started blogging about my experiences and tried to get many others to join the cause. I started a group on facebook, so I could meet other local like-minded friends; I joined many green websites and green news subscriptions, in order to keep up on all the latest technology advances, fun facts, and laws that are being passed around the world; I threw a total “green” baby shower (now that was a lot of fun!!!) and joined Repower America to volunteer and help Indiana go green.
Where do I want to go next? Hmmmm……I WILL, one day have a green business. (I don’t want to give away my idea yet) I would love to start a green non-for-profit. I will eventually drive an alternative fueled vehicle (I would really enjoy biking every where, but have too many kids for that!) And, Brad and I want to build a totally green home; but that’s a ways off still. 😉
How about you?!

Apple Works Farm

Today, we went to Apple Works apple orchard in Trafalgar, IN with Grandma Debbie. It was such a great time; I highly recommend this place! It has beautiful scenery, tons of great foods, drinks, and crafts, a really cool playground, pony rides, train rides, a petting zoo, pumpkin picking, and sooooo much more. Just check out the pictures, they speak for themselves! I just LOVE this season!

Owen’s first pumpkin patch experience!

….and he slept through it. 🙂

We loved the scenery.

The happy momma…

Owen, with a baby goat.

The goats had a really cool tree house!

My little model…

They make fabulous apple dumplings and apple cider slushies!

I tried to wake him up…

This was a slide that they created, the girls loved it….I thought it was a little rough!

Her gum was supposed to be a worm, hanging out of her mouth.

What a great day with Grandma Debbie!

Praise the Lord, Owen made it to two months!!!

Today, Owen turned two months old. He is starting to coo at me and smile a lot. It is sooo cute! He is now up to 13.5 lbs and 24 inches long.

The little rascal, gave a good scare today while he was taking his nap. He had been asleep for a while, so I went in his room to check on him, and I found him with his thin blanket wrapped around his head and completely covering his face! I jerked it back quickly and he opened his eyes with surprise. I thought for sure that I had lost him, but praise God, he is still alive!!!! What a scary moment. I kissed his face over and over, joyful that he was still with us.

Anyway, here is a video of him crying and smiling! Enjoy!

Football Food….Yum!

It’s time for our weekly Food Blog! Here is a delicious recipe from my sister Joni, called “Chicken and Chips” Casserol. Nothing like the crunchiness of Chips and the spicyness of Jalepeno’s to go good with a Colts game. How ’bout that victory this weekend!!! Go Colts!
Ingredients:
1 can (10-3/4 ounces) condensed cream of chicken soup, undiluted
1 cup (8 ounces) sour cream
2 tablespoons taco sauce
1/4 cup chopped green chilies
3 cups cubed cooked chicken
12 slices process American cheese
4 cups crushed tortilla chips
Directions: In a large bowl, combine the soup, sour cream, taco sauce and chilies. In an ungreased shallow 2-qt. baking dish, layer half of the chicken, soup mixture, cheese and tortilla chips. Repeat layers. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 25-30 minutes or until bubbly. Yield: 4-6 servings.

Indiana is catchin’ up!

As many of you know, I am a huge supporter of helping Indiana go green. I am a member of Repower America, helping Indy repower with renewable energy; and in the long process of starting a green non-profit called Events For Solar-Powered Schools, which helps our local schools become solar powered. I have taken a break on that due to having a baby recently.
Anyway, this all leads to the excitement my family experienced when we got to see the hundreds (well over 500) of wind turbines located in Benton and White Counties in Indiana, on our way up north to Wisconsin last weekend! The blurry pictures I took out the car window didn’t even capture the magnificant capacity of our country’s largest windfarm! These wind turbines went on for miles and miles on several acres of vast farmland!
A wind turbine works like a fan, but in reverse: instead of using electricity to make wind, like a fan, wind turbines use wind to make electricity. The wind turns the turbine’s blades, which spin a shaft connected to a generator to make electricity. If you’ve seen them for yourself, and wondered why they all aren’t spinning, it’s because they only spin at certain times and can only go up to a certain speed. So, if a tornado goes through the area, they won’t spin right off of their shaft and take out a farm house. 🙂
For the agriculture community, development companies are offering lease payments to farmers for the use of their land for wind farms. These payments can help preserve farmland but then, too, help sustain a family farming operation and provide some additional revenue. You can actually take a wind farm tour in Benton County, check out http://www.earlparkindiana.com/windfarm.html for more information and pictures.
Way to go Indiana Farmers!!!

Our weekend in Wisconsin…

This weekend we headed north to the Wisconsin Dells to relax with the fam. My Mom and Dad, Joni and Mike, and the five of us, rented a house on Lake Delton and had a wonderful relaxing time enjoying each other’s company. We went on a land and water adventure on the Original Army Ducks; the guys climbed 500 feet of rock at Devil’s Lake State Park, the girls (and Owen) went shopping, and we cooked lots of meals, celebrated birthdays, and laughed a lot! There was so much to see and do there, that we decided we want to make it an annual deal! Two days just was not long enough.

My biggest fear for the weekend was the 7 hour car ride with a two month old. Owen handled it amazingly well! He slept the whole time except to eat every few hours. And the girls did great too; no fighting! I feel blessed to have such well-behaved kids. 🙂

We also celebrated my baby girl’s 5th Birthday while there! Our little Lilybug is getting so big! It was a great weekend; one we all needed! Enjoy the pictures!
